The new iconic landmark in the retail landscape of Ulaanbaatar, Shangri-La Retail defined the new trends of shopping in Mongolia. Set to become the highest-end of retail centers in the Mongolian capital, this 30,000 sqm podium of shops and restaurants integrated to the office and serviced apartment towers comprise phase 2 of the Shangri-La Hotel.
The design is inspired by natural elements that are typically not available for most of the year to Mongolians due to the harsh cold, snowy and dark long winters. A warm welcoming environment for people to gather, shop and dine is recreated with a combination of soft coloured tone materials such as stone and timber, green elements, and day-light quality ambiance.
Moving perspectives and soft angled void shapes guide the shoppers experience combining coziness and sophistication.
At the top, an Imax and a Gourmet Zone with 350-covers attract visitors to the new talk-of-the-day of the city.
