In an effort to adapt our complex Grand Gateway 66 to new realities, a major revitalisation program with target completion by late 2019 has been put in motion. One that requires in-depth understanding of new demands and trends combined with sensitive strategic planning skills that would allow for minimum disturbance of normal business operation once renovation works are in progress.
Girimun Architects have attained tremendous achievement in re-planning the mall, especially on the integration of all zones of the building and its connections to metro, and in particular the existing annex mall, which was once operated as a department store. Apart from directly channeling major pedestrian flow from metro lines at basement, the new spatial arrangement and visual connections allows for a seamless and total integration of the annex into the whole building offer.
Going through the revitalisation planning exercise for both main mall and annex, Mauro and his team cleverly reshuffles valuable commercial areas, replacing once silent spaces at annex by the newly created flagship stores at the new gateway.
We trust the Grand Gateway revitalisation program will be very fruitful and we all look forward to witness this rejuvenating transformation and to experience the new “old” landmark of Shanghai.
